Richard Shore

Richard Shore is a founding director of Reneo Consulting LLC.  Richard brings to this role a passion for developing and implementing creative, targeted solutions to help clients overcome their most challenging, often bet-the-company, problems.  He has played a leading role in designing cutting-edge initiatives in the insurance, mass-tort, bankruptcy, and other fields, and he has substantial experience in legislative, lobbying, political, and election-law matters.  He has helped to resolve billions of dollars in disputes in the course of his career. Hallmarks of his approach include taking on the conventional wisdom, clarifying issues, refocusing the debate, and implementing innovative solutions.  His work involves critical analysis; strategic advice; mediation, negotiation, and settlement; legal strategy; and litigation management.  His clients have included Fortune 500 companies, small and medium-sized businesses, trade associations, non-profit entities, and individuals.

Richard is a frequent speaker on dispute settlement topics and insurance.  He has been quoted in media outlets including USA TODAY, and Business Insurance.  His articles on ADR, insurance coverage, and other issues have appeared in a variety of print and electronic publications, including the Forbes Leadership Forum and The Huffington Post.  A recognized authority on negotiation and mediation, Richard has developed an engaging seminar on settling disputes that draws on Hollywood films and New Yorker cartoons, among other unlikely sources, to illustrate successful, counterintuitive negotiating strategies and techniques.

Richard has devoted significant time and effort to pro bono matters, focusing particularly on helping children at risk and other vulnerable individuals.

Richard received his B.A. in economics from the University of Maryland, where he was selected as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and his J.D. from Columbia University Law School, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.  Following law school, Richard attended Keio University in Tokyo as a Monbusho Fellow to study Japanese dispute resolution techniques. In addition to his role at Reneo, Richard is a partner in the law firm of Gilbert LLP. Previously, he was a partner in the law firms of Covington & Burling and Dickstein Shapiro.

Richard serves on the board of directors of The China Fund, Inc., a management investment company focused on China.  Click here to read the press release.
