Michael P. Hatley

Michael Hatley works with companies of all sizes to solve their most intractable problems and create new, revenue-producing opportunities. Some of the tools Michael uses include strategic consulting, structuring deals, market research and analysis, obtaining U.S. and foreign government licenses, drafting business proposals, managing PR and marketing campaigns, coalition building, and pursuing litigation.

At present, much of Michael’s work at Reneo Consulting involves advising and advocating on behalf of U.S. businesses pursuing trade and investment opportunities in Cuba.  At Reneo’s Cuba practice, Michael devises strategies for client projects in Cuba that reconcile competing stakeholder interests and secures U.S. and Cuban government approvals.  Recently, Michael facilitated the first import of Cuban goods to the U.S. in over fifty years.

Michael also represents corporate and individual clients in federal and state courts on a wide range of complex commercial litigation and insurance recovery matters as an attorney at Gilbert LLP, Reneo Consulting’s parent firm. Prior to joining Reneo Consulting and Gilbert, Michael helped startups grow their business through Internet-based marketing campaigns. Michael received his B.A., summa cum laude, from Saint Louis University before becoming a Fulbright Scholar to Freiburg, Germany. He received an M.A. from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he focused on international law, economics, and negotiation. Michael received his J.D. from The George Washington University and is admitted to practice law in New York and the District of Columbia.
